Adding on, I have found these two articles immensely helpful for understanding the linkages between Jira and Confluence:

Use the highlight text feature (and select the 'Create Jira Issue' icon) in Confluence while you are creating project tasks to create your JIRA issues automatically without having to leave Confluence. The issue will display on your Confluence page and link directly to the new task. Better yet, use a table to create multiple tasks (with columns identified for Summary and Description) to use the same feature to create multiple Jira tasks at one time!
