Hello:
I am using New Relic's Workflow notifications to send alerts using the Status Page component email and have appended '+partial_outage' to the email address. This is to report when my service experiences a partial outage instead of a Major outage.
How do I get it to switch back to operational when the alert is resolved in New Relic? I see the following message under the automation log, "Ignored automated component status update; the component was already in status: 'Partial Outage.'
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Hello @Nezi Dias ,
Please note that when you append "+partial_outage" or "+degraded_performance" to a component's automation email address, it overrides the "UP" command in subject lines which is used to make it back to Operational.
To set it back to Operational, please use the unaltered automation email for the component.
I hope this helps resolve your concern, please check and let us know.
Best,
Shashwat
@Shashwat Khare Thank you for your response and suggestion.
I think this might be a bit tricky since we use New Relic's alerting automation. I want to track the health of my services for slow response times or high throughput.
Once the alert is resolved, it notifies the same channel, but I don't think there is a way for it to remove the manually appended words, '+partial_outage" and replace them with "UP."
Please let me know if there are other suggestions to resolve my issue besides manually updating it.
Thanks,
Nezi

Hello @Nezi Dias ,
Please note that the UP keyword should be present in the email subject of the notification being sent from New Relic to set the component back to operational and not the sender email ID.
We unfortunately don't have an alternate option for this.
May I know if you're unable to remove the appended '+partial_outage' of the email address from the New Relic component automation as below?

Shashwat

Hi @Shashwat Khare
Thanks for your quick response. Yes, that is precisely the issue I am facing: unable to remove the appended '+partial_outage.'
What about this: can I append the word UP in the Email subject line along with the appended '+partial_outage' in the email address, or would this cause much confusion for Status Page to work?
My thinking is that when the alert fires, New Relic would send the email to Status Page. Status Page triggers the partial outage and stays active till it receives the resolved email from New Relic. Since the word UP is already appended to the subject line, would it trigger Status Page to switch to 'Operational'? Please let me know if I am entirely off or if that's a possibility.
Thanks again for your help.

Hello @Nezi Dias ,
Yes, you're right that the word UP in the email subject line should set the status back to Operational for the component, however, the catch here is that the appended '+partial_outage' in the email address overrides the UP keyword in the subject line.
We need to have the UP keyword in the subject line from New Relic send the email to the original component email ID and not the appended +partial_outage' in the email address unfortunately.
Best,
Shashwat
