My current understanding is that there are two ways of being notified of scheduled maintenance.
1. An email notification if a user is subscribed.
2. An in app notification via status embed.
There doesn't seem to be a lot of options or flexibility around setting when the notification goes out.
For example is there a way to create a scheduled maintenance and have a notification go out to both subscribers and in an in app notification a week before the maintenance is supposed to occur? With maybe an reminder (in app only) an hour before the maintenance is supposed to occur?
Also is there a way to setup a recurring maintenance window/notification?
This is Jesse from the Statuspage support team. Welcome to the community and thanks for the question about scheduled maintenance.
When you create a scheduled maintenance, you have the option to set some automation settings including the creation of the maintenance, an hour before the maintenance, when it is in progress, and when it ends. You can see the breakdown of automation here:
Beyond that, you are allowed to add any other updates you want manually. If you want to notify users a week early, you can make an update to the maintenance and choose to send notifications in that update.
One caveat to the automation is that it always posts on the page as well as sends notifications to users. If you wanted a one-hour reminder to show up on the page only with no notifications, you can manually post that update instead of using the automation.
Besides email subscriptions, Statuspage offers SMS, Webhook, and Slack notifications. Hopefully, this helps point you in the right direction but please let me know if you have any additional questions about the functionality of the scheduled maintenance.

There is currently nothing on the roadmap for automation. Regarding testing the Status Embed, you can take out a trial page and do your testing there. That way, you don't have to worry about notifying your customers from your production page.
