What does the search field in the middle bar in SourceTree actually search?

There is a search field right in the middle of sourcetree interface int Log/history and Search tabs. What does this actually search. It does not seem to actually do something. It is driving me nuts to have a search field so prominently displayed, yet i can't even figure out what it is supposed to be searching.

This is the search field i am talking about:search.png

I have tried numerous times to type something and search, only to instantly remember that it does nothing.

I have the same question ..

After some testing, I found one case where the search field actually does something. If you have uncommitted changes and have them selected, it will search the file names of the changes. Note, this is ONLY for uncommited change sets if you select an actual commit the search bar still does nothing

However i feel like there has to be something more to it since it seems like a very prominent place to put such a limited feature.
