Bamboo - When enabling Branch Updater build fails with reason Exception during merge: null"

I have setup a Bamboo plan and enabled Plan Branches.

I have created a branch for one of my feature branches and enabled Branch Updater, i.e. I want master to always be merged to my feature branch.

When I try to build the plan for the feature branch, I get a build failure with reason: Exception during merge: null.

No logs were generated

Apparently this is a culmination of two bugs:

Both these bugs have been marked as fixed for version 4.2 but unfortunately we are still on version 4.1.2 for Bamboo OnDemand.

There is no specific date for when will Bamboo 4.2 be deployed for OnDemand but it is on the roadmap for September.
