Incident only if 2 of 4 servers fail

Henrik Schuetze January 4, 2024

We are a technical oriented organisation. We maintain Servers, Storages, VMs and Container and so on. We have a monitoring solution based on icinga2, zabbix and other tools.

And we have the Company rule to use OPSgenie for alerting.

But we also dont want to send every alarm the monitoring solution generate to our night manager.

For example:

  • We have 4 Webservers, Icinga2 sends an Alert if one fail.
  • The SLA say 2 Webservers are enough to reach the SLA
  • We only want to call the night manager if 2 servers are fail at the same time.

How can we do this in the Altassian Stack ?

Hi Henrik,

Thank you for reaching out to Atlassian Community Support.

It sounds like you're looking for a way to consolidate and manage your alerts more efficiently to avoid unnecessary calls to your night manager. This could be achieved by implementing a few changes within your monitoring solutions and alerting system.

There are a few options that you may consider:

Integrating the Monitoring Tools with OPSgenie: Both Icinga2 and Zabbix can be integrated with OpsGenie. Opsgenie can consolidate alerts from all your monitoring tools into a single view, which can help you manage and respond to alerts more efficiently.

Alert Deduplication: This involves identifying and removing duplicate alerts. This would not necessarily apply to your specific server situation but could be useful in your overall alert management when configured along with the Notification Policy.

Please note that the exact steps would depend on the specifics of your systems. You might need to refer to the respective user manuals and perform the initial configurations.

If you run into issues or need more clarification with the configurations you can reach out to our support at https://support.atlassian.com/contact/#/ with the specifics of your system and current Opsgenie set-up so we can advise you accordingly.
