Error when creating policies

Bruno Araújo January 4, 2024

Hello community,

We have some py scripts that interacts with OpsGenie API to create alerts, policies and other stuff. Those scripts have been running for years but they stopped to run successfully in the past few weeks ( we don't know for how long exactly they stopped working ) and we don't know why. We didn't change the code and/or the Api Keys.

The error is:

{"code":40301,"message":"You are not authorized to use policies!"}

We created new api keys and new integration api keys with all permissions but we still have the same problem.

Can you try to give some guidance to us?

Best regards

Hi @Bruno Araújo

Hope all is well!  Thank you for reaching out!

I am thinking that there has been a change to your Opsgenie plan that resulted in this error.

Found a couple of tickets with the same error message and it was because the Opsgenie Essentials plan (or Jira Service Management Standard plan) doesn't support Alert and Notification Policies.

If the left navigation bar of your Opsgenie Team dashboard doesn't show a Policies tab, then your Opsgenie or JSM plan doesn't support Policies.

To upgrade to the Opsgenie Standard plan, one of the Opsgenie Owners will need to go to Settings > Subscription to select it.

If this wasn't the case, please feel free to reach out to Support via the blue Chat bubble on the bottom right of your Opsgenie screen or open a ticket at support.atlassian.com/contact, and we will be happy to assist.

Best Regards,

Thanks, Wei! It makes sense.

Is it possible to add a maintenance window (i.e disabling all notifications ) without using policies?

Hi @Bruno Araújo

You are welcome!

If your Opsgenie is on the Essentials plan, you would need to manually turn off alert notifications for the integrations within each team.  Unfortunately, policies are not available within the Essentials plan.  On the other hand, you can use the Integration API to List Integrations, then Disable and Enable them during the maintenance.
