Alert Policies are a great and easy way to automate modifications on alerts during creation!

They follow a WHEN / IF / THEN conditional statement; WHEN an alert is created, and IF it matches XYZ conditions, THEN have Opsgenie modify _______ on the alert.

As a Support Engineer with Opsgenie, a few use-cases we commonly see are:

  • Tagging alerts to differentiate which ones are prod, dev, etc. Customers do this to seamlessly export reports based on a specific tag(s). These can be helpful for month-end-reviews, or debriefing with your team each week.
  • Another popular one is filtering on a string in the alert, then have Opsgenie modify the alert's properties / automate its workflow. For example if "Critical" happened to be in the message, an Alert Policy can be used to increase the priority, add additional responders, etc.

These are just a few, but would love to hear how others are leveraging Alert Policies today!
