Create Alerts Sending SMS messages to Opsgenie Incoming Call number

Incoming call routing provides a phone number and manages the routing of incoming calls to this phone number based on your on-call preferences.

It's also possible to send SMS messages to the number added as an Incoming Call in Opsgenie to create alerts. It depends on the number you registered for Incoming Call Routing integration supporting this function to receive SMS or not.

When sending SMS messages to the Incoming Call number, they won't routed to the team defined in the settings:

In order to route the SMS alerts to the proper team, it's necessary to create a Global Alert Policy:

With this Global Policy, the alerts created using SMS text messages will be routed to the proper team.

Yeah, had the same issue before. We set up incoming call routing for alerts, but SMS wasn’t coming through as expected. Turned out the number we used didn’t support SMS properly. Switched to a sip trunk provider like Telxi and suddenly it worked without extra hassle.
