Google workspace & Trello?

Nick M - EYMH Staff February 19, 2025

Hi there,

I'm keen to hear some examples of remote asynchronous working methods non-profits are using to engage and collaborate with small teams across several countries?  Any thoughts, ideas, examples anyone can share?

Our organisation is : www.eymh.org

Hey @Nick M - EYMH Staff

I don't work for a global non-profit but a rather local one, but we rarely work together in one place or at the same time since most of us are working as volunteers and we all have our day jobs where we need to get work done.

So the nature of our collaboration also depends a lot on asynchronous information. I'd love to say that we're perfect in how we collaborate, but I think there's a lot we can improve.

What I'm really thankful is that we've introduced Confluence (Data Center) some years ago. Confluence helped us a lot when we needed to transition lots of knowledge of someone who was about to retire and store it there. Now, it's not only accessible to the current person, but that knowledge is also available to everyone else.
This example illustrates to me how important it is to document projects, processes and tools in a clear, accessible way for everyone.

We're still struggling a bit what best to use for managing our tasks: Trello would be easier for most of our users - and better accessible on the mobile, but we're quite cost-sensitive. And even with the nonprofit discount that would be quite an invest because we have many users which don't need to use the tools that often.

Therefore, I'm still struggling whether I should spin up a Jira Data Center to manage our tasks, but have the feeling it would be too much for many of our users.

So, I'm also still checking what's the best way, but maybe it inspires you a bit.

Cheers,
Matthias.

Hi @Nick M - EYMH Staff - great question! Curious to hear what others have to say. Here are some examples I've heard or have experienced myself:

@Callie Miaoulis shared a great example of how their team uses Confluence for team collaboration in this demo video. I know their field teams use Confluence to access org wide information. They also have Google Drive that they integrate into Confluence as a single source of truth.

At the Atlassian Foundation our team is close to 30 people made up of smaller teams across four countries. We find Loom super helpful to communicate informally and asynchronously between our teams and timezones. We hosted a recent webinar on Loom for Nonprofits that walks through some asynchronous use cases of Loom that you may find helpful!
