Sprint naming inconsistency between API and JQL

The api documentation states that there are 3 sprint states: active, closed, future.

 

However, there are 3 advanced jql serching functions:

  • closedSprints()
  • futureSprints()
  • openSprints()

 

Can one safely assume that in the above terminology, open = active ?
