so users are required to reset the password every a set period of time?

@Nader George Welcome to the Atlassian Community.  If you are on server there is not really an option for this other than using an app. (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1220467/password-expiry-policy?hosting=server&tab=overview)  I believe this is due to the fact that most customers use an external application to manage users that have their own policy.  There was a feature request here that got tied into another feature request that they will not do.  https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-3532
