Here's what a Jira issue preview looks like in slack today:

WIBNI Jira previews in Slack worked like the "inline" format of a smart link in Confluence, e.g.,

The way a smart link to an issue is displayed in Confluence in "inline" mode has the following advantages over the current unfurling format in Slack:

  • The link is inline in the text so the conversation is not disrupted
  • The link is visually distinct within the text
  • The link contains the relevant information about the issue in a single line with no boilerplate, i.e., Issue Type, Key, Summary, Status
    • the action buttons included in the current issue preview in case you want to do something add a lot of boilerplate which is very disruptive to the flow of conversation, and are not really needed - if you need to perform an action on the issue, just click on the issue, or support right-clicking to see a pulldown menu of actions
  • If there are several issues under discussion, you don't end up with the actual text of the discussion scrolled off the screen or generally buried in boilerplate
