🍻🍂 Apptoberfest Demo: Checklist for Apptoberfest / Oktoberfest 🍻🍂

Checklists are useful for just about any process, be it creating software (you need a Definition of Done), running a business (here’s an example of how you can manage procurement in Jira) and even recreating. We wanted to have a little fun with Apptoberfest, so here’s an example of how you could use Issue Checklist for Jira Pro to get the most out of Oktoberfest.

Oktoberfest use case for Apptoberfest

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Product: Jira Work Management or Jira Software

  • Apps: Issue Checklist for Jira Pro

  • Workflow & Issue Type: Custom simplified workflow and Task issue type

  • Set-up Tasks:

    • Workflow post function

    • Automation rule

Workflow

Visiting Oktoberfest, or any festival, can probably be broken down into three simple steps:

  1. Planning – Here’s where you book your flights, find a hotel, figure out what events you want to attend, etc.

  2. In Progress – As in, enjoying the festival. For Oktoberfest that probably means visiting as many tents as possible, drinking beer, listening to music, and eating pretzels.

  3. Recovering – Every Jira workflow needs a done status. If you’re visiting the worlds largest folk festival you don’t want to be “done” until you really can’t do any more.

Workflow Post-function

In the Planning phase, you’ll be using a Checklist to make sure that all pre-trip tasks have been completed. Features like user mentions, a calendar picker and clickable links add functionality to the checklist.

But once you’re there, you’ll want to use the checklist for more important things, like keeping track of the beers you want to try. Issue Checklist for Jira Pro copies your checklist into a custom text field, so you can easily set up a post function to clear the checklist.

Now you can paste the beer list into your checklist in just a few clicks.

Moving the checklist to the right side panel of the issue, makes it accessible in Jira mobile, which will be really convenient while you're at the festival.

Automation Rule

One could get carried away in such a situation, so you can add an automation rule to let you know when it’s time to stop. Along with the Checklist Text field, Issue Checklist Pro creates a few custom fields that store metadata about the checklist. This rule uses the Checklist Completed field as a trigger to add a comment and transition the issue.

The Bad News

While Apptoberfest is just beginning, Oktoberfest is over for the year. Maybe we’ll see you there in 2023! In the meantime, we hope you’ll check out Issue Checklist for Jira, including one of its latest features – language support for French, Polish and, of course, German!

@Jennifer Choban - Whoa, had no idea! I'm here for that. 🙏

I wonder if there's a way to have that checklist content pop-up in the native Jira app?
