Workflow "Done" is affecting Backlog and Sprints

Julie Bell February 5, 2025

Hello Atlassian Community -

We have included a status of "In Production" into our workflow.   When a Sprint is set to "Completed" and a new Sprint is "Started", our backlog displays completed stories.   Verified all stories have the status of "Done".

If moving "In Production" status in front of "Done" resolve the issue?

The definition of "Done" is when all the work has been completed, correct?

Hello @Julie Bell

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

In a Scrum board when you complete a sprint only the issues in the column farthest to the right are considered "complete". Issues in all other columns to the left are considered "incomplete" and will be moved to the backlog or designated next sprint.

It doesn't matter what status is actually mapped to the right-most column.

Should the issues in the In Production status be considered "complete" and removed from the board when the sprint is completed, in addition to the issues in the Done status being removed? If so, both statuses need to be mapped to the right-most column.

If In Production issues should not be removed from the board when the sprint is completed, then moving that column to the left of Done will solve the problem.

Thank you Trudy for your response.     Does this issue also affect our Advanced Roadmap?

Affect which part of the Advanced Roadmap?

Does the status of In Production or Done affect the Target Start/End and Release Dates in the Advanced Roadmap?

If you are referring to fields within Jira issues, then no, the position of the statuses within columns on the boards doesn't affect those values as long as your system doesn't have customizations to make such an impact.
