Why are stories showing in the Timeline but not in the Backlog?

Rodriguez_ Emily January 29, 2025

I have recently set up a new JIRA project and we are currently creating stories. I can see all the new stories stories in the Timeline tab associated to the correct epic, but they are not visible in the Backlog at all.

- I am working in a team-managed project

- I have checked for any custom filters and confirmed there are none.

- I have confirmed that the Backlog feature is turned on.

- I tried assigning one of the stories to a Future/Planned sprint. The story did not populate in the sprint backlog.

What am I missing? Why might stories not be visible from the backlog?

Hello @Rodriguez_ Emily

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Can you provide a screen image of what you are seeing in the Timeline and in the Backlog, and a screen image of one of the issues you think should be displayed but is missing? Obscure confidential data.

Thank you for providing those images.

Can you go to the Board (vs. the Backlog) view, and click on the Configure Board option.

Navigate to the Columns and Statuses configuration. Make sure that the Statuses are all mapped to columns on the right, not listed under the Unmapped Statuses area.

Hi @Rodriguez_ Emily ,

so you have "checked for any custom filters" in 'Configure board', correct?

Have you also checked the Quickfilters in the backlog, especially "Epic"?

Kind regards,

Mike
