When a ticket is reopened, the ‘Resolution’ field should be automatically set to ‘unresolved’

abbas June 15, 2020

Observed outcome

  • This works when reopening the ticket from resolved or closed statuses.
  • But does not work when reopened from 'Testing in progress' or any other status.

Expected outcome

  • 'Resolution' should become 'unresolved' when a ticket is reopened from any state

can anyone please help me to guide step by step to resolve this things @John Funk

Hi @abbas

In the workflow transition(s) back from 'Testing in progress' where you'd like the resolution to be cleared, you will need to set a post function of Clear field value and select Resolution from the dropdown menu. If you have several global statuses, you should set this post function on each of the non-resolved statuses.

Hope this helps!

@abbas Okay sure;

To add a post function to a transition:

  1. Select  > Issues (you will need to be a Jira admin)
  2. Click Workflows and then Edit for the relevant workflow (this should be the main workflow being used for the project you're in)
  3. Select the transition:
    • In diagram mode, select the transition arrow between the two statuses.
    • In text mode, select the transition's name from the Transitions (id) column.
  4. Open the post functions tab:
    • In diagram mode, click Post functions in the properties panel to show the triggers configured for the transition.
    • In text mode, select the Post functions tab.
  5. Click Add post function.
  6. Add the Clear Field Value post function, then select resolution from the dropdown menu
  7. Repeat this for all other transitions where you would like the resolution to be set to /remain as Unresolved
  8. Publish Draft to finalise your changes.

@abbas No worries at all, you can also use the post function at the very bottom of the list, update issue field, then select Resolution from the first dropdown and then select None from the second :)
