With the release of JIRA 4.4 today, some customers who visited the Mac OS X download page for JIRA were surprised to see the following:
"Note: OS X is suitable for evaluation only, we do not support JIRA on OS X."
While this has been the case since the previous release, JIRA 4.3, I wanted to post just to apologize for any confusion caused.
We had updated the JIRA supported platforms documentation with each release and removed Mac OS X as a supported operating system, and included the fact that we would no longer support Mac OS X in an Atlassian forum post surrounding JDK support. But we did not issue an explicit end of support announcement in forums solely for Mac OS X.
We have customers who continue to use Mac OS X, and we have a large number of people who evaluate JIRA successfully on Mac OS X, but we don't support it as a production platform. We want to continue allowing people to evaluate on Mac OS X.
Recently, we updated the downloads page on www.atlassian.com to make sure it was clear that Mac OS X was available for evaluation but not supported in production use, and that may have been the first time that customers noticed the change.
Again, apologies that this came as a surprise to some customers.
