I am using a Kanban board (not sure if that matters for this). I was recently made project manager for one of our projects and I need to update the Releases associated with this project. My admin says I should have the correct permissions set to do it as project manager, but I am prohibited from doing so. Is there some specific setting or permission that I need for this?
Hi @Matthew Zappitello Welcome to the community!
To manage releases for a Jira project, you need project administrator permissions.
My admin says I already have those perms. What could be the reason I still can't do it? I've tried refreshing the page and logging out and back in.

If project admin permission granted to you then you will see the project setting option at the bottom left side and then check the project permissions for the release or version.

Adding to this...
Hello @Matthew Zappitello
Welcome to the Atlassian community!
How have you determined that you are unable to manage releases? Do you see the Releases option among the project navigation options?
The Releases feature has to be turned on for the project in order to see the option in the project navigation list. You would enable and disable features by going to Project Settings > Features.
Can you check the type of project with which you are working? Go to the View All Projects page under the Projects menu. Find your project in the list. What does it say in the Type column?
Do you see issues for more than one project in your board? The evidence of that would be issues that have different issue key prefixes; i.e. ABC-123 vs. XYZ-456.

I have the Releases option in the Project Navigation list. When I click on it, I can see the releases and click on each one to see which stories were finished within that release. But I am unable to create a new one or to update the status of an existing one. I watched my admin (with "God level permissions") go through the actions so I know what I *should* be able to do. I just am not given those options under my account. He also showed me his page that shows me to have the project administrator permissions.
My project is of type "Company-managed software".
I only see issues for my project. All of them have the same prefix.

Thank you for that additional information.
Can you provide a screen image of what you see when you navigate to the Releases page? The Create Version option would be a button in the upper right corner. The status change option would appear by clicking on the ... button to the far right of each release.
You need to have the Administer Project permission in a Company Managed project to be able to manage Releases for that project. How did your Jira Administrator validate that you have that permission? For a Jira Administrator there is a Permission Helper button that appears when they look at the Permissions for a Company Managed project. That could be one method the Jira Administrator used to validate you have the right permissions.

As you can see, I don't have the ability to create Releases or the triple-dots to the right of each release to modify them. I will check again with my Admin to see if they can maybe give me a screenshot or something showing me as Project Admin. Cuz all evidence seems to point to the contrary.

@Matthew Zappitello, only if you have project admin permission then you see the project settings option.
