We are encountering an issue with adding new Change Numbers to the "Fix Version/s" field for issues in our Jira project. As shown in the attached screenshot [attach screenshot here], when attempting to add a new Change Number (e.g., CHG0145091), we receive the error message "Version with id 'CHG0145091' does not exist."

Previously, we were able to add new Change Numbers directly to this field, which were then created as versions. However, this functionality seems to be broken. We are unsure where and how to create these new Change Numbers/Versions now.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Create or open an existing issue in [Your Project Name].
  2. Go to the "Fix Version/s" field.
  3. Attempt to enter a new Change Number (e.g., CHG0145091) that does not currently exist.
  4. Observe the error message "Version with id 'CHG0145091' does not exist."

Expected Behavior:

We should be able to add new Change Numbers directly to the "Fix Version/s" field, which would then either:

  • Automatically create the corresponding version, or
  • Allow us to link to a pre-existing location where we can create the version.

Actual Behavior:

We receive an error message and are unable to add the new Change Number to the "Fix Version/s" field.

Workaround (if any):

None identified.

Impact:

This issue is blocking us from properly managing our releases and tracking bug fixes associated with specific Change Numbers.

Questions:

  1. Where and how can we create new Change Numbers/Versions that can then be linked in the "Fix Version/s" field?
  2. Is there a specific permission or configuration setting that controls the ability to add new versions?
  3. If the process has changed, could you please provide documentation or instructions on the new workflow?

@Sunny Nafraz

are you on cloud version? if so, go to releases and add the required versions. You may need Project Admin privileges to do this.
