Test case management plug-in for JIRA

Tien Le July 27, 2011

Hi guys, we're looking to invest in JIRA and I just wonder if there is any plug-in that can cater for Test Case Management like Quality Control (developed by HP)?

Would love to here your opinions. Thanks

A number of my clients have binned QC in favour of doing it all with Jira and Bamboo or Jira and Hudson, based on http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONFEVAL/Using+JIRA+for+Test+Case+Management</p<>>

Hi Tien,

If you are looking for something to replace a legacy application like QC and need to run multiple projects in parallel with structured testing cycles, and a lot of automated and/or manual testing, take a look at Zephyr Enterprise Edition. We will help with all of the data migration: http://www.getzephyr.com/zephyr/zephyr_enterprise/overview.php

If you are just getting started with JIRA, take a look at Zephyr for JIRA. It is a native application that completes end-to-end project management in JIRA by adding testing to the overall planning, development, bug tracking and reporting process: https://plugins.atlassian.com/plugins/com.thed.zephyr.je

We're replicating HPQC Requirements, Test Cases & Defects from HPQC to Jira (and in some cases back again, but the testers don't like that....) using the JaM plugin from Go2Group.

I've been using it for almost 2 years and as long as you spend some time working out what data you *really* want to replicate & set some ground rules between teams before you start then it's works really well.

The last couple of versions of thej plugin (6.0, 6.1, 6.2) have come on a long way & we couldn't operate without it any more.

I don't like HPQC, it's a slow, cranky system which is prone to random crashing & hogs the browser like an unwelcome house guest but we have a whole team of testers who use it all the time and having the JaM plugin means we can keep the testers & developers talking.

I like Nic's idea of using Jira for test management but in an imperfect corporate world these things aren't always possible.

While it's not directly a plugin for JIRA, you might want to look into our test management software TestRail that integrates well with JIRA. You can also read a recent posting on Atlassian's blog about it:

http://blogs.atlassian.com/jira/2011/04/testrail-test-management-with-jira.html

We use JIRA's SOAP API for the integration and you can push issues to JIRA, link test results to JIRA issues and look up the status of issues from within TestRail. The integration can also be customized for custom JIRA fields, your own workflows etc. as needed. You can learn more about the capabilities here:

Hi,

We customised Jira for Test Case Management http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONFEVAL/Customise+JIRA+For+Test+Case+Management. We also had to develop some plugins like showing reports for test executionfor each iteration. There are some other plugins that have to be developed in order to suit our needs, but it takes time mainly because I am not a developer and I have to develop those plugins.

I was at the Wellignton Atlassian User group (small gathering :p) where the hosts, Catch Limited, did mention their Enterprise Tester that has integration fro JIRA. I've not had hands on as yet though.

If you dont have the budget for the HP product, perhaps something like http://www.catchlimited.com/index.php?page=enterprise-tester / https://plugins.atlassian.com/plugin/details/5202 would work.

Hi Tien,

There is a plugin for JIRA integration with HP Quality Center: https://plugins.atlassian.com/plugin/details/26467

Is that what you are looking for?
