Running different products in the same Oracle tablespace ?

Lars von Wedel June 29, 2011

Hello,

is it possible for different products (considering Confluence, JIRA, Greenhopper, Fisheye so far) to share the same Oracle tablespace ?

It would be nice if they could all share the same one (as internal "pricing" in the company is by TS).

That should work fine as long as you use different schema owned by dedicated users (as long as you have enough space). We have used this in Test, not production!

Ofcourse, you should test it first and verify.

Okay, thanks for sharing this information. I'll have to think this over as any change on Oracle DBs requires a ticket at corporate and takes three weeks time.

Most likely, I'll go and test with an Oracle XE installation first.

We have it in production and it works. But our backup is per tablespace. Now imagine, you do a update and something breaks (never happened, but what if?) You have to shut down every service running against that tablespace for every single update!

It works, but we are sepparating the tablespaces per application.
