Restricted request types for Group

Ilia Shapira January 10, 2025

We are using 10.3.1 Data Center and one of the new features of 10.3 is "Restricted request types"

Restricted request types | Jira Service Management Data Center 10.3 | Atlassian Documentation

When we try to add a restriction it say "Add user, group, or organization to restrict this request type" , but the problem is that we can't add any groups. It shows only users.

Any idea what is the problem ?

Thanks

Hello @Ilia Shapira

The issue with adding groups to "Restricted request types" might be due to group visibility or configuration settings. First, I’d check if the groups you’re trying to add are properly set up and visible in Jira. Go to User Management > Groups to confirm the groups exist and ensure there aren’t any issues with directory synchronization, especially if you’re using an external directory like LDAP.

If the groups are visible, the next step is to confirm global permissions. You need to ensure the groups are assigned permissions like "Browse Users and Groups," which allows them to show up in selection lists.

Sometimes, the issue might be a caching or indexing problem. If everything else looks fine, try reindexing Jira through System Administration > Indexing, or clear the application cache.

Hope this helps.

Groups do exist under User Management > Groups

The default jira-administrator group isn't shown and its suppose to have all the permissions as far as I understand

We did full reindex

Hi @Ilia Shapira

If I understand the problem here, you are not able to select any groups within this feature.  I'm not certain there is a clear explanation yet.  I created a support case on your behalf over in https://getsupport.atlassian.com/servicedesk/customer/portal/3/SDS-72244

I suspect our Data Center support team will want to gather some details about your environment to better understand what might be the cause here.

Thanks for the update Ilia!

However, in that ticket I see that it was actually working as designed - but you cannot add groups that were not added to the project access settings before.

I would say that this is some unclear UX and should be improved. @Andy Heinzer do you see/think there will be any follow-up to this to improve this now that the bug ticket has been closed?

Hi @Ilia Shapira

Im seeing the same behaviour. I can't search for any groups. Even the default jira-administrator group isn't shown. That one already has global permissions as @Sahir Maharaj mentions.

Im testing 10.2. Let me see if there is a Bug maybe?

Same here I can't even see the default jira-administrator or any other groups

Hi Ilia,

I don't have easy access to DC 10.3 right now, but one of my general experiences when searching for groups in these kinds of dropdowns, is that they are often case sensitive. So, if your group names are like 'SUPER-ADMIN', you might have to search it as 'SUPER-ADMIN' instead of 'super-admin'.

Can you give that a try?

Ilia Shapira January 10, 2025

Nop unfortunately this is not the issue.

I tried case sensitive, but still shows no groups.

If I go to User Management I have no problem to find groups there, but here no groups at all

Hi Ilia,

Thanks for your prompt replies! So far, it does seem like either illogical UX, or an actual bug. I have asked an Atlassian Engineer to look at the case, which should usually occur within a few business days. Hopefully they can shed some light on this!
