Auto-populate related custom fields in issue type "feature''

Suryanarayan_Sharma2 July 18, 2023

Hello All,

I am looking for an option of creating a Custom Fields in issue type "Feature" as:

Field 1: PI Name (Drop Down)

Field 2: PI Start Date (Linked to PI Name & not editable)

Field 3: PI End Date (Linked to PI Name & not editable)

Field 4: PI Objective (Linked to PI Name & not editable)

Field 5: PI Objective Status (Drop Down)

I want Field 2 to Field 4 to be auto-populated, when I select Field 1  i.e. PI Name.

Do we have any functionalities or any pre-built rule in Automation option without any 3rd party plugin?

Hi @Suryanarayan_Sharma2 ,

How often would the PI Start Date, PI End Date, and PI Objective change for each of the options in Field 1?

If these largely remain the same, then a simple "issue created" tigger + "field value" condition + "update issue" action. You would have to set conditions and actions for each option in the first field.

If the PI Name may be edited after issue creation and the other fields need to be updated accordingly, then you also need rule with the trigger “issue field updated”.

If you want these fields to show up dynamically, and be populated dynamically, then the app linked by Kai Becker is indeed a great option.

Thanks Els.

I am going to try out the option suggested by you and kai.

The fields should remain constant, unless and until due to some reason the "Feature" is not completed within a PI.

Also this custom fields will have to be added and updated for existing issues i.e. "Features"

However, I have a good starting point, let me go ahead and explore both the suggestions.

Regards,

Surya

Hi @Suryanarayan_Sharma2 ,

thanks for your question and welcome to the community.

As of standard functionalities, sadly there is nothing to achieve this.

You said without apps, but as you are using a free instance, this one would be free for up to ten users and should solve your problem.

Thanks for the quick revert Kai.

I am using the free version for PoC, as sandbox on Enterprise Cloud has not been enabled for me by the organization.

Internally, I havent had an answer on this, so thought of reaching across to the wider community.

Are there any pre-built automation options i.e. "triggers'' on the Enterprise Cloud instance that will enable me to have fields auto-populated or I should look up 3rd party apps.

Regards,

Surya
