Hi as a UX Team in Deviniti we would like to ask a few questions according to accessibility in Atlassian products:

  1. Is Atlassian going to force vendors to adhere to WCAG?
  2. If yes, then to which version of WCAG? And where exactly - just on the publicly available pages (e.g. documentation) or in all the elements of our apps?
  3. Which aspects of accessibility are being currently introduced by Atlassian? Are we obliged to meet the requirements included in the European accessibility act? (European accessibility act )
  4. Is Atlassian going to meet those requirements?
  5. Is Atlassian going to offer any support for vendors regarding accessibility?

Hello,

I am with Atlassian's central accessibility team and have some answers for you

1. Is Atlassian going to force vendors to adhere to WCAG?

Atlassian suggests individual vendors review with their legal and other business consultants the accessibility requirements appropriate to the environments where you operate. Atlassian has no plans to force conformance to an accessibility standard but it is highly probable that some form of WCAG standards will apply to your work and many businesses are asking for this in contractual arrangements.

2. If yes, then to which version of WCAG? And where exactly - just on the publicly available pages (e.g. documentation) or in all the elements of our apps?

As a general rule, accessibility standards such as WCAG do not draw a distinction as to where they apply. For specific versions of WCAG and other standards, again we suggest consulting with legal or other business consultants. As a general rule, WCAG 2.1 AA is the current standard but as updates to that and other standards appear, plans should include how to conform to those updates.

3. Which aspects of accessibility are being currently introduced by Atlassian? Are we obliged to meet the requirements included in the European accessibility act?

For details on what Atlassian is doing around accessibility, please see our accessibility home page at www.atlassian.com/accessibility and the roadmaps for individual products.

With respect to the European Accessibility Act, if you operate in the EU, it is highly likely you will be required to meet the requirements of that legislation. Again a legal or other business consultant is the best resource for specifics.

4. Is Atlassian going to meet those requirements?

As detailed on our accessibility page, Atlassian is working to address accessibility in our products. That effort includes conformance to accessibility standards including WCAG and others. Our accessibility home page has conformance documentation for Atlassian products.

5. Is Atlassian going to offer any support for vendors regarding accessibility?

Could you expand on this question as far as what sort of support you would be looking for? Feel free to follow up here in the forum or via email to a11y@atlassian.com.

Thank you,
