Questions about ticket fields

  • how do you require description
  • how do you delete the start date / time estimate fields?

Questions about sprints

  • how do you make a sprint in a business project, without making it a software project? if not, is there a workaround? i specifically want the option of filtering out old tickets (tickets that are completed, and have been completed for 2 weeks)
    • can I do this with an automation?
      • I can see in automations i can create a trigger on an issue being resolved. i can change its type to a "archived ticket" and then have the board filter out the archived tickets. however, this is missing the "archive" part, aka how do we only archive after a certain amount of time?

Questions about boards

  • how do you create custom fields?

Hello @Manaal Siddiqui

Are you working with Jira Data Center (self-hosted) or Jira Cloud? Your post has been tagged for both.

If these questions are about Jira Cloud, do they concern a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project?

Questions about ticket fields

  • how do you require description
  • how do you delete the start date / time estimate fields?

Requiring Description:

- Do you want the field to be required at all times?

Delete Start Date:

- You should not be deleting fields, but you can remove them from the screens.

Delete Time Estimate:

- You should not be deleting fields, but you can remove them from the screens.

You cannot make a sprint in a Business project directly. You can create a Scrum board that reference the Business project and create sprints for the Business project issues through that Scrum board.

However, you don't need a Scrum board and Sprints to meet your requirement - "i specifically want the option of filtering out old tickets (tickets that are completed, and have been completed for 2 weeks)". In a Business project the issues that are completed are automatically hidden from the board view in that project when the issues have been completed for two weeks or longer. You don't need to do anything with Automation. The hiding of completed issues is done automatically in Business projects.

Questions about boards

  • how do you create custom fields?

Custom fields are not related to boards. Boards are just a way to view and manipulate issues. The issues themselves are stored in projects.

The method to create custom fields for issues in a project depends on whether you are working with a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project. For a Team Managed project, custom fields can be created by the Project Administrator through Project Settings / Issue types. Select an issue type and the screen that displays includes the functionality for creating custom fields for that issue type. For Company Managed projects custom fields are created at a global level by Jira Administrators, and they can add those custom fields to screens for issue types and projects.
