Populate custom field based on data from another MS SQL database

Hi,

Is it possible (Maybe through a plugin?) to populate a number of custom fields with data from an external MS SQL database?

E.g If I have a custom field called Account Number - a user enters in an account number when creating an issue and it does a select against another database and populates the some other custom fields (Maybe company name, contact etc) with data from that database?
