Need help logging in as another user in Jira

Johanna Himes April 20, 2020

I am trying to login as another user in Jira, but after I click login as user, i get redirected back to an Atlassian login screen. And when I login using my credentials it says incorrect, since perhaps it wants to login info of that user, which I don't have.

How can switch to that user without being asked to login?

Thanks

Johanna Himes

Hello @Johanna Himes

Sorry to see you are facing a problem to log in as another user.

Per your description, I understand you are getting redirected to the Atlassian Account login page when clicking to "log in as user" on the user management page as displayed in the screenshot below. Is that correct?

As you can see in this documentation, the option to "log in as a user" is used to properly set new users in Jira and troubleshoot issues when they do not have the access to do it.

That being said, I believe you are probably being redirected to the login page because the user is added as a trusted user, which does not require to be impersonated anymore.

To allow the user to be impersonated again without needing any password, navigate to the same page you use to "log in as user" and select the option Basic under the Roles menu:

No. Again, change creep and documentation do not maintain an updated relationship.

You can not "log in as user" until someone manually logs in as the user. This is a problem, when you are trying to set said user up as an API user. Why there is no functionality for this is absolutely beyond me. Why you (Atlassian) make everything twice as complicated as it needs to be, is beyond me!anopther failure.png

Is there something I'm missing? Maybe an explanation. A reason?

Hello, can you tell me which page contains the "Login as User" button? I am an org and site admin and cannot see this button when going to Admin > Users > [User A]. The page shows the products and groups they are assigned to, with their detail card on the left, but no option to impersonate.  Is this a feature that needs to be enabled someplace? Appreciate any help!
