I have read that multiple JIRA instances can be linked to one Stash instance. In our organization, we are planning for each small dev team to have their own JIRA instances, but would like to maintain just one instance of Stash. Is anyone doing this and does it work out okay? We are using Active Directory for user management. Are there any issues with user management and/or permissions? Each dev team lead should be able to assign developer level permissions to Stash repositories? Would there have to be one Stash admin to setup projects initially for all dev teams? Thanks for any insight on this.
Hi Jeff,
As of Stash 2.7 we added support for mutliple JIRA instances which should help with your scenario.
You would probably create (at least) one project per dev team, either by your Stash admin or alternatively granting your team leads the 'project creation' permission. Your team leads should be made admins of those projects (which automatically happens if they create them directly) and could assign permissions to team members and create individual repositories as required.
Just out of curiosity, is there any reason you don't just have a single JIRA instance, with each dev team having one (or multiple) projects? This is generally what we do at Atlassian where possible, and makes things easier to setup and administer.
Cheers,
Charels
Hi there,
I just created a new feature request for this:
https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/STASH-4814

how does the clickable link in stash source code commits tab for a jira ticket link resolve to one versus the other jira instance ?

We have a link back to Stash, and then we attempt to connect to each JIRA instance in series until we find a matching issue. It's not ideal, and something we plan on improving in future versions.

Thanks Charles, we're having a similar issue (multiple JIRA instances, not all devs can access every instance, so we want to associate a JIRA instance to a Stash project). Is there a JIRA for this feature we can vote on?

Hi Michael,
Actually I can't find one (and haven't seen one before). You're welcome to raise your own if you like.
