Misc custom field: retrieve the current value of a calculated text

Hello,

Is it possible to retrieve the current value of a calculated text field from within the script itself?

In my scenario I have a calculated text field whose value depends on the status of the linked issues. I'd like to add a comment to the issue if the new value of this field is different than the previous value.

Calling the issue.get("customfield_XXX*) I am afraid it will generate a recursive call.

Anybody out there tried to do something similar already?
