Make required field validator on Epic Link not fire when creating an Epic

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: How to make Epic Link required on JIRA Software issue create screen

This approach works for all issue types except Epic. When I try to create an Epic, the Epic Link field is not displayed (with a message that an Epic cannot be linked to another Epic. But the validator kicks in and stops the Epic being created. Any ideas?

Hi,

To resolve this problem, i created 1 workflow scheme with 2 workflows for the project. In one workflow, i assign all issue types, except the type Epic, and included the validador for Epik link. In the other workflow, i assign only type Epic and not included the Epic link validator.

This is a great question, and seems to be a obvious request.  Disappointed that no one has been able to answer this.  Did you ever find an answer for this?
