Jira iOS shortcuts error - “There was a problem communicating with the app”

Mitarbeiter ZUCH December 6, 2024

Until recently, I’ve been successfully running the Jira iOS shortcuts Create Issue action and Set Issue Field Value action to create and update issues on Jira Cloud. But the actions are returning this error: “There was a problem communicating with the app.”

Please see the attached pic of the simple shortcut and error message.

The crazy thing is that the shortcut actions actually still create / update the issue in the Jira app.  But because the error displays it stops the shortcut from processing other actions, thereby breaking the automation chain.

I’ve also tried running the 2 failed shortcuts on different devices with no luck. I have the latest versions of the Shortcuts and Jira apps installed.

Please help.

Hi @Mitarbeiter ZUCH ,

I apologise for the inconvenience!

We are aware of the issue and are working on a fix. We have a public issue tracking this problem: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-85412

Thank you,

Simon

Welcome @Mitarbeiter ZUCH ,

Have you deleted the cache of your app and tried again? Also, have you tried with force stopping the application and running it again?

Mitarbeiter ZUCH December 6, 2024

Yes. I deleted the cache and tried it again. I restarded the Ipad and IPhone. On both devices i have the same error. I added new shortcuts with the create issue commant. Also the same issue.

This needs to be escalated for the Atlassian support to take a look at it. You can raise your request here: https://support.atlassian.com/contact/#/

There is no possibility to request support there. I'm just being redirected here or to the documentation. It is a bug in the latest version. Can some please fix this?

Mitarbeiter ZUCH December 7, 2024

The same issue was reported here in 2021. (https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/Jira-iOS-shortcuts-error-There-was-a-problem-communicating-with/qaq-p/1746660#U2888604). There I got help from the Atlassian team here in the community chat. Can someone from there please support me? Thank you very much.

I understand, but I am not an Atlassian employee. You can request a support for different product (if you are at least on Standard plan) and then from there you can make a request by selecting the Technical issues and bugs.
