Jira Server to Cloud Migration

My organization currently has an 6.1.7 Jira On prem that is way beyond support, I was tasked with setting up another server and installing Jira 6.1.7 and connecting to the backup database that our DBA created.  I have been able to successfully upgrade the environment to Jira 7.6.4 and everything works the way it should.  I have also gotten the migration assistant installed but the issue that I am running into is that the base URL of the new system is pointing to the old instance which is currently up and running and being used.  When it is asking for the server its looking for the base URL - and I can't proceed any further because of the issue with that being the older version.  If I change the base URL on the new system to something will that allow me to continue with the migration.  I currently have Jira Cloud Premium and also a sandbox environment.  I have opened a support ticket with Atlassian but because the environment is no longer under support I am not expecting any help.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Robert,

First, I wouldn't be surprised if you get assistance from Atlassian support. In all of my interactions with them they have gone above and beyond. In addition, even though you have an old version of Server you are migrating to Jira Cloud Premium.

In the mean time, I'm not sure I will be able to help, but I wanted to confirm that the base URL on the new system you are referring to is the updated Jira Server instance - correct?

I don't have experience with your question, and the safest is to see what Atlassian Support responds with, but I believe renaming the base URL on your new Server instance will solve the issue. However, I found a related thread here on the forums (https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/Jira-Migration-to-Cloud-Error-in-the-field-quot-Migrate-from/qaq-p/1471884) which seems to indicate that you may then have to uninstall and reinstall the migration assistance app.

Regardless, please be sure to post an update here on your ticket with what resolves your issue so that this ticket can not only be marked as "answered", but will be a help to others dealing with a similar issue!

Christopher

Thank you so much and they did reach out to me late Friday afternoon and I agree they always go above and beyond.  I have another instance of Jira On Prem that currently has been shut down and was thinking I could utilize this URL.  I will take a look at the link you supplied and again thank you so much.

Hi @Robert.Ogden , how is the migration going? Were you able to get past your issue?

Curious for the details so we can get this ticket marked as "resolved"!
