I think I have seen squad members struggling and often mix up between the issues and changing their ultimate status.
Suppose, there are two different workflows for different issues in a project. For Example - Tasks being used only for in sprint items and their final status is Done and Stories i.e. feature implementation are done while those are system tested and Closed finally while these are Business Tested and moved to live through releases.
The workflows and their supported issue types were explained to squad members but still they misunderstood and struggled to change it and while dashboards and underlying filters were created it was miserably wrong and showing a complete different picture.
