Is there a way to show Portfolio's 'Themes' field in JIRA?

It's possible to create 'Themes' in Portfolio for JIRA in the Themes report, then tag Issues in the Portfolio for JIRA interface. One example:

This is not possible today without implementing the field yourself as a plugin or via a plugin that allows scripted fields.

Several unaddress feature requests have been made. Most importantly, the data is not avaliable as a Custom Field Type (so it's not viewable) and the data is not propagated to children issues (so it's not searchable).
