The Plan boards allow a maximum of 5,000 issues in the view. We are trying to determine if there are options to increase this limit and if not, is it due to performance?

See this support article about the 5.000 issue limit in Plans. The limit is not configurable and cannot be exceeded:
To prevent Jira from timing out, there are limits on how how much data your plan can include. Some limits can’t be exceeded, like the issue limits, while others negatively impact your plan’s performance or usability.

Thanks Manoj, we are using Company Managed projects exclusively, the ticket that you attached seems to be specific to Team Managed projects only. Do you have any insight to the limit for Company managed projects? Thanks!
