I am looking for a view where i can view Initiatives in the backlog similar to how we look at Epics Tag?

Is it possible?

Hello @Swetha Kuruvatti

How is the Initiative related to the issue shown in the backlog? Is it linked directly to that backlog issue, or is it the parent of the Epic?

If that is a board for a Company Managed project, or a board created from a saved filter, you can navigate to Configure Board and add up to three fields to the card display in the backlog via the Card Layout options. Those would be fields used within the backlog issue directly.

However, if the Initiative is the parent of the associated Epic, then there is no direct link between the backlog issue and the Initiative. So there is no field in the backlog issue that can be added to the card to display related Initiative data.

You could create Automation Rules that would copy some piece of Initiative data down to the backlog issue in a field that you could then add to the card layout.

Thank you for the reply!

In backlog the initiative shows similar to User Story(Attached). Also tried configuring the board it doesn't show the Initiative :(Screenshot 2024-04-03 100302.pngini.png

Hello @Swetha Kuruvatti

Yes, Initiatives and other issue types that you add to the issue type hierarchy above the Epic level will show up in the Backlog and on the Board as cards, just like Stories. The Agile Boards have not been enhanced in any way to be able to automatically understand those additional custom hierarchy levels and provide any specially handling for those types of issues.

If you don't want those issues to display as cards you would need to change the filter for the board to exclude them, or add a Quick Filter that you could use to manually hide and reveal them.

What exactly is your issue hierarchy? It sounds like it might be this:

Initiative
|-- Epic
|-- Stories
|-- subtasks

In the Card Layout you can add issue fields to display more data on an issue card. With Card Layout you are telling Jira "for any issue shown, show on that card the information for <this> field from that issue".

If you want to show in the Story card the Initiative that is the parent of the story's Epic, similar to how the parent Epic is shown in the Story card, you will have to develop a custom solution to get that Initiative information and store it in a field in the Story. That could be done using an Automation Rule and a custom field that you add to the Story issue type.

ok for now, I added 'Component' field and added Initiative description(short one).

I was looking for how epic shows as tags on the backlog, something similar way but this works so far while presenting.
