Hi,

how can I inactivate in general as the administrator the "What's new"-Banner when JIRA 5.0 comes up. However, interested user should be able to show it via their profile.

Thanks for any help.

The what's new dialog is implemented as a plugin. You can either disable the entire whats new plugin in Administration -> Plugins or you can just disable the "show-whats-new-flag" plugin module in the whats new plugin to stop it from popping up automatically.

good thinking on making it a plugin. Didn't know that!

In v6.2 ... Administration > Add-Ons > Manage Add-Ons > ....Filter Visible Add-Ons by ...[drop-down-select] System. Scroll down to the... JIRA Welcome Plugin ... and click the ">" to expand it. Click the "+" in front of the "22 of 22 Modules Enabled" to list the modules...and find this one (5th one down):
Flag show what's new (show-whats-new-flag) ...hover > click the Disabled button

JIRA 5.2 renamed/merged this in to the JIRA Welcome Plugin. "Flag show what's new" handles the automatic popup on login; "What's New Browse Menu Item" handles the link in the user menu.

When it comes up initially, you can check the checkbox not to show it again and close it. If you need it again, you can find it in the profile drop down.

There is nothing you can do it remove the popup all together in the config but you can maybe use some javascript to close it off as soon as it loads. I wouldn't do it though ;)
