Hi all,
For over a while now, I am not able to access my timeline on Jira general board. If I click on the timeline feature, it brings this error message that says ''A JQL filter is blocking your timeline''. Image below for full clarification. Please could you suggest how I can remove this error and make the best out of the ''timeline'' feature on the Jira general board. Thank you
Thanks for your response.
Do you mean the timeline is not working because I created some issues with no epic? Because I believe I have the Epic filters on the board.
Images below for clarity.
Hi @Oluwatobi Omotayo ,
I am unable to see the images you have shared. Looks like they are not attached, But you can try creating epics in the projects and test if if the timeline is activated.
If not request you to provide screenshot or the filter query that you are using on the board.
Thank You.

Oops, I guess I did not attach the images properly. Here are the images.

No worries :)
Could you please confirm the below things
- Is the issue type epic included in your project issue types ? Please find more details here : https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/set-up-the-roadmap/#An-epic-issue-type-must-exist-and-be-included-in-your-project-via-JQL
Jira Software comes with a default issue hierarchy structure which includes the issue type epic. Your administrator can create a custom hierarchy level and name it whatever your organization calls tasks at that level.
However, if this epic-level task is hidden from the timeline’s issue source, whether by accidentally deleting the issue type or filtered out through a JQL filter, you’ll see the same warning as above
Kindly follow the below steps to fix the issue:

Thank you very much, Prachi. This is clear. However, it seems I have the ''Epic Type'' among the ''Issues Types drop-down'' *screenshot below''. while the timeline still seems blocked. What could be wrong?

Thank you for your reply :)
Could you please switch the filter mode from basic to JQL to get full query of the filter user
I see from the screenshot issue type! = Epic meaning it's not showing the epic.
I would suggest you to do the following
- Change the filter query of the project like
project = "" ORDER BY Rank ASC
- Create an issue with the type epic
- rerun the query and see if the issue type epic is seen
- this should show the timeline
If still there is an issue request you reach out to our support : https://support.atlassian.com/ so that we can take access to your instance and check
Thank you,
Prachi

Hi @Oluwatobi Omotayo ,
Welcome to the community :)
I understand the timeline in your projects doesn't work and the error message is displayed
The error here indicates that the current board filter has excluded the issue type epic.
For the timeline to display its important to have the issue type epic.
Could you please check your board filter and see if epics are excluded any way and re-add them to the filter.
Please also check if the project has issue type epic.
Thank you,
Prachi
