How to export Jira cloud attachments without Backup for Server functionality?(migration cloud -> DC)

Ricardo Cereceres September 19, 2024

Plugins like Project Configurator or Configurator Manager for Jira DataCenter helps to perform Jira Cloud Migrations to Server using the backups created by the "Backup for Server" functionality. But this will be discontinued on November 24.

So I am looking for alternatives once that this functionality is discontinued.

It seems that Atlassian will continue offering the ability to export issues and their content, but there's not a clear view of what will happen with the attachments export.

Hi Ricardo,

Numerous tools are available for migrating data from Jira Cloud to Jira Server, but based on experience, it’s essential first to outline the key requirements you need for the migration. It will help you better evaluate the tools on the market to find the best fit. Data migration projects can be complex and require thorough planning and strategy to succeed. The documentation link talks about the must-have features and evaluation criteria for the data migration tool.

Few important ones are:

  • Downtime: Downtime adds operational costs and impacts development operations as teams may be unable to use Jira during ongoing migration. As part of the evaluation, validate that no downtime is involved that can cause business disruption.
  • Field Template Inconsistency: Analyze if there is any field scheme configuration difference between your Server and on-cloud instance. Make sure you have a strategy for bridging those differences if needed.
  • Validation before Migration: Running a sample migration before the actual one helps identify potential issues, allows the team to take action, and avoids delays.

OpsHub, an Atlassian Silver Solutions partner, has extensive experience in undertaking complex migration projects, ensuring zero downtime, no data loss, complete date integrity and full ownership of the migration process.
