We are implementing Jira and the use of kanban boards to assist in the process of creating, monitoring and completing quality inspections task. We'd like to display the kanban boards on the shop floor with each department having their own board. Are their companies displaying live kanban boards, if so, please share how you've accomplished that. Is there additional software needed? We plan to display on over 30 monitors and would like for them to show a live feed of each board.

Hi @Brandon De Guia,

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

First of all, are you on Jira Cloud or Data Center and what version?

The best way for this, in my opinion, is to create a Jira dashboard with the necessary gadgets that you want to display and make use of the wallboard mode features of the dashboard to display it on TV monitors.

The wallboard feature of the Jira dashboard will slide-show through all the gadgets from the dashboard. So you will need to add a gadget that can display a Kanban board of your team, but you can display other gadgets (charts, tables, etc) for the wallboard mode to cycle through them.

Unfortunately Jira no longer provides a dashboard Wallboard gadget, it was discontinued a while ago, that's why I asked for Jira type and version...

But you could search on Atlassian Marketplace for a plugin that provides such gadget. In case you want to use a plugin, our Great Gadgets app offers a Team Wallboard gadget that can display the Kanban board of a team and it is wallboard-capable (because not any gadget supports this visualization mode).

Here is how I did this for my agile teams:

  1. Create a dashboard in Jira for one team
  2. Add to this dashboard the gadgets you want displayed and configure them for this team
  3. Create a user in Jira with limited permissions (just enough to display the dashboard of the team) to be used for displaying the data on TV
  4. Open the browser on the TV (it was a smart TV in my case, with its own browser) and log on to Jira with the user created above and load the dashboard of the team
  5. Start the wallboard mode of the dashboard to start the slide show
  6. Repeat this for the other teams, by cloning the board of the first team and re-configuring it. You can use the same user created above to log-on.

As a result, I displayed the information I want to be displayed on the TV in the open team space.

Our Team Wallboard gadget can also display the dashboard to anonymous users via public dashboards. You could use also this approach, which does not involve creating a Jira account especially for displaying boards on TV.

Hope this helps.

Hi @Brandon De Guia ,

Welcome to the community!

While this doesn't seem to be a Jira specific question, adding my 2 cents.

You'll have to check with your IT team to get a machine connected to 30 monitors (since this would need a lot of hardward and configuration), once that is achieved, Jira won't restricts displaying a new kanban board across each monitor or display.

Based on the active display you choose you can project any information you want on each screen.
