How to convert/migrate Active Directory account to Jira Internal portal only account?

Edited

Hi Community,

We are looking for a solution for converting/migrating External Users directory accounts, (Microsoft Active Directory (Read Only, with Local Groups)) to Jira Internal account, portal only accounts.

We have some external users who no longer need to have accounts managed in our external user directory but should be converted to portal only accounts.

We tried the following -> today the username is email id and if we delete the user in AD and sync in Jira, user will appear as inactive with the label [X] next to the full name (meaning deleted), but we can't add the same user (email id) to the Customers in the project because the user with the same username (email id) exists as inactive user.

Any ideas if we should convert accounts by modifying the database? Or if we could change the username in AD and deactivate instead of deleting the user?

Thanks in advance! :)
