How to change appearance in Jira boards

Ariel Ramos January 23, 2025

Hello Atlassian Experts, hope you're doing well today!

My name is Ariel and I'm new here. Sorry in advance if I make a mistake submitting the ticket in an incorrect way.

Also, I'm new in Atlassian stuff and I started to work with the Atlassian team in my job so I'm trying to get all the information to be better day by day with this.

So, I need to know how to change the appearance of Jira boards.

I have some Jira boards (Kanban and Scrum) as Team-Managed projects.

In some cases, the appearance of the boards looks like this:

The 'Options Panel' is on top of the board

but when I create a new one, the appearance looks something like this:

How can I change that kind of appearance to look like the first picture? Where do I have to go?

Thanks in advance for your help!

ARiel.

Hello @Ariel Ramos ! Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

The first screenshot is the layout of a Jira Business project.

The second screenshot is the layout of a Jira Software project.

Hey @Robert Wen_Cprime_ thanks for your quick response!

How do I get that layout? Where can I find it?

When I press Create project, only show me the standard ones:

So, along the left, choose a different category for Project templates away from Software development to something like Work management or Product management

Adding to this...

Hello @Ariel Ramos

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

You cannot apply that layout to Software projects at this time by setting an option in the project. It is available only for Business/Work Management projects.

However it will become the layout for all projects when the New Navigation feature becomes general released.

Hey @Trudy Claspill @Robert Wen_Cprime_ thanks for your help!

Which option of Work Management should I have to choose to get that layout?

Sorry, I'm replying with my work acc.

@Ariel Ramos

Choose any of the templates that are available when you select Work Management. It is used for all of them.
