Dear All,
I hope you all are doing well, before i jump onto the query i want to provide some background
We have 2 division in company and both of us are using JIRA as task management tool but the problem is that our division is still using JIRA which is hosted on datacenter and the other division is using JIRA which is hosted on Cloud, now we want to migrate our JIRA Environment as well to migrate from Data Center to Cloud, but there are some dependent tools which we are using in Data center environment and we are doubtful whether or not it will be compatible on JIRA cloud as well
So our plan is to migrate our common template configuration to cloud and test our dependent tool there and accordingly migrate our environment to cloud
Query :
How can i copy the entire common template configuration (its workflow, issue type schema, ....etc) from our JIRA data center to JIRA Cloud?
Thank you
Hello @Rajat Krishnan
I work for Exalate.
Migrating common template configurations from Jira Data Center to Cloud can be done by exporting and importing workflows, issue type schemes, etc., using Jira's built-in configuration tools or apps like Configuration Manager for Jira. However, this approach may require manual adjustments to address compatibility issues.
Alternatively, if you need to keep both environments in sync during testing, a tool like Exalate could help. It enables bi-directional synchronization, allowing you to replicate workflows and other configurations across environments while maintaining consistency.
Thank you.
Kind regards,
Mathieu Lepoutre
Hi @Rajat Krishnan ,
The best path forward here would likely be to use the Jira Cloud Migration Assistant to migrate the project from Data Centre into the Cloud. This will bring issue data across, which may be helpful in your testing.
Once the migration is complete, the Data Centre instance is not impacted. All of the information will remain there, and continue to be usable.
The Cloud site will hav a copy of all the data you choose to migrate, and you can delete all the issues from the project at this point, to have a "clean slate". All of the configuration for the selected projects will have migrated, including workflows, custom fields, etc.
Here's a Help Article that describes the options you have available using the JCMA tool: https://support.atlassian.com/migration/docs/choose-what-jira-data-to-migrate-using-the-assistant/

Hello @Robert DaSilva ,
Thanks for quick response,
The main problem with our data center environment is that it contains many legacy projects as well which has their own configuration and if I do any migration i would end up migrating unwanted configuration from Data center to Cloud environment and I am afraid that the admin of other division would suggest any such migration as it could also result in impacting their cloud environment with some unwanted or duplicate configuration and project data.
I am not sure whether you have any experience with IBM ELM toolsuite but their we have an option to export the process configuration of an project template and import it anywhere in any other IBM ELM instance, I am looking for something similar here, I just want to migrate the configuration of specific project, I hope you got my point
Thank you

Hi @Rajat Krishnan ,
The JCMA tool allows you to select individual projects to migrate, and should only include data related to that project.
That said, you can use other 3rd party tools to migrate the configuration only. I have not personally used IBM ELM, so I can't speak to that.
If you want to only migrate one project with 0 issue data, what you can do is create a new project on your source site, and use the existing project as a "source". You can do this using the "Create Project" dialogue, and selecting "Create with shared configuration". Here, you will choose the project you want to use the configuration from, and you are set.
Hope that helps,
Robert

is this also valid if my data center environment (source) is hosted on different server and cloud environment (destination) is hosted on other server??
Thank you

Hi @Rajat Krishnan ,
Yes, this should function regardless of where your Data Centre infrastructure is hosted. You will need to open certain firewall ports as defined here: https://support.atlassian.com/organization-administration/docs/ip-addresses-and-domains-for-atlassian-cloud-products/
I would recommend creating at least 1 issue that uses all of the custom fields you need, however, to ensure everything gets brought to Cloud.
