How do you make a field under "Resolve Issue" required or not required based on the date?

For the purposes which we use JIRA, it would be very useful to have a feild which, before a certain date (defined in the versions), is optional, but which becomes requred to mark an issue as resolved (or closed) after that date. Is there any way to set this up?

Yes, but it will require scripting in JIRA. There are a number of plugins to help you do that
