How do I get complete information from Jira Cloud into a Confluence page on Release Notes?

Gabriel Roth September 30, 2024

I am creating and releasing versions from Jira Cloud and trying to generate Release Notes from Jira to populate a page in Confluence, but it seems like the information coming over is minimal at best. I would like to bring over the Description, Related Work, Start/End Dates, Designs, and any other page data on the Release definition page in Jira, but it seems like NOTHING comes over except a page created with the Release Title and the issue parented to that Release.

Am I missing something, or is this really just not a particularly useful feature?

If you're releasing the version in Jira and checking "create release notes" then yes, it's just making a Confluence page with the Jira issues macro in it.  See https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/create-release-notes/

Figma Designs aren't part of that, but you can definitely add other Jira fields to the list, in two ways:

  1. From Jira in the Create release notes dialog, click Formatting options and pick other fields. See also Show more fields at the bottom.
  2. From the Confluence page, edit the Jira Issues macro it created to include other fields.

Lots of people create a "Release Notes" field in Jira so that product owners or team members can write a user-friendly summary of the issue instead of giving users the full Description.
