How do I access Story Point totals in a version through a Jira report plugin

I'm writing a Jira report plugin and I need to get the total story points for a given release / version. This is the cumulative # of story points for all sub versions (sprints) within a release. You can see this number displayed in the Planning Board statistics in Greenhopper.

There is no means of seeing a story point total, you have to calculate totals by hand.
