We tried to upgrate our Jira/Greenhopper setup from Jira Version 4.4.3 & Greenhopper Version 5.8.2 to Jira Version 5.1.2 with Greenhopper 6.0.2. This worked fine on our stage setup but when we tried it on our productive setup the Greenhopper plugin could not be taken online. The error message "License is for an older version and maintenance has expired" was being displayed.
We have an Unlimited-user commercial license that expired about 2 days after our test run on the stage but we were told, that we would only loose the maintenance/support by Atlassian. All versions made available prior to the expiration date should be available to us for permanent use.
Jira 5.1.2 itself works fine but our development department cannot continue their work at this time without Greenhopper. For this reason we had to roll back to our original setup, whicht still works fine.
How can we do the upgrade without having to purchase an extension to our license?
Joe, there's a known issue with some versions of the Universal Plugin Manager that cause it to not acknowledge a valid license. To work around this, do the following:
Generate an Evaluation license at my.atlssian.com
Deploy that license
Upgrade your Universal Plugin Manager
Restart JIRA
Deploy the correct license for GreenHopper
After that, all should be well.
Hi John,
Thanks for this information.
We will try it out and update this thread in case it still does not work.

I would contact support - support.atlassian.com
Sounds like if 6.0.2 came out before your GH license expired you should be able to install it no worries

Hi Colin,
unfortunately this is not the case. We had it installed and wanted to add our license which we could not do, would not even let us open the appropriate screen. Always got the error message described in my original post.
Both version came out before the expiration date and work on our stage system.
