GitHub for Jira

linus lin February 20, 2025

Hi everyone,

I am just starting to learn how to use Jira. I would like to ask if using the IT team bundle instead of the development template means I cannot use Github for Jira? I want to add branches and connect them to my Github. Or can I use automation to create this connection?

hello @linus lin ,

As it has already been mentioned, you need to integrate Jira and GitHub to ee the development features.

Maybe this article will be helpful: https://gitprotect.io/blog/jira-github-integration/

Hi ! Dear @Evgenii

Will enabling this feature allow me to use development-related functions in the IT team bundle? Currently, these features are visible in my Software project template, as shown in the image below.

You need to:
1. Enable connection to GitHub (if it's not yet enabled)
2. Check issue layout in IT project. Looks like development field is removed from issue layout, that's why you don't see it.

1. I already enable connection to GitHub !

2. Thanks for letting me know. Could you guide me on where I can check the issue layout? I'd like to verify the development field configuration in the IT project. Do I need any specific permissions to view or modify the layout settings?

I noticed something - in my Software Development template, there is a <Features> option that can enable the development workflow. However, in my IT Project template, this <Features> option is not available.

Is it because different project templates have different setting options?

Hi, @linus lin

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

In order to use development features, like branches, PRs, etc.. you need to connect Jira to  according service, like GitHub/GitLab/Bitbucket. Only after that you'll see this development features.
It can be done by administrator of your instance. It's made here:
