revathy_madhavan February 11, 2025

Hi Team,

I am having set of Sub-tasks in jira for which an epic link should be added, I cant able to add it using bulk update feature.
Is there anyway to add the missing Epic link in the Sub-tasks.

Kindly help me to fix this by providing a solution

Thanks in Advance!

Hello @revathy_madhavan

Normally, only standard issues (level 0) can be added as children of an epic (level 1) via the epic link or parent field, depending on your Data Center version.

Subtasks (level -1) must be added as children of a standard issue (level 0) via the parent field.

hope this can help

Hi @Duc Thang TRAN ,

Thanks for the update, yes these sub-tasks has been mapped to a Story which is having this epic link but these sub-tasks are not getting listed in the dashboard filter  which we are using.

So for that purpose only  i wanted to know if there is any possibility to update the epic link in these Sub-tasks to get it listed in the dashboard.

Attached screenshot for reference.

Screenshot 1 & 2 -- Story & linked sub-task both have epic link & it is listing in dashboard.

Screenshot 3 & 4 -- Story has epic link whereas the linked sub-task does not have epic link hence it is not listed in dashboard

Hello,
I'm not sure, but I believe the subtasks from your first two screenshots belong to a different project compared to the subtask in the last screenshot. Perhaps this is because the field "epic link" in the 4st screenshot isn’t available on that screen of subtask .

Another approach, you can try using automation ?

Hi,

Both belongs to same project but the difference is sub-task having epic link is created using Bulk upload feature whereas the other sub-task which is not having epic link is manually created in Jira.

When you mention bulk upload, are you referring to the CSV import method or the bulk edit feature on the search screen?

If using the CSV import method, the Epic field may not be available for viewing, editing, or creating but this solution can by pass.

During the standard issue creation process, this field might not be accessible.

Yes exactly, so is there any solution to pull the sub-tasks (not having epic link) but its parent is  having epic link to get listed in the dashboard?
